QUESTION:          Where does your merchandise come from?
 
ANSWER:                We get our consignment merchandise from folks who are redecorating, who have moved and downsized and have no use for certain items in their new home and from estates.  We also beat the bushes for great buys on merchandise to pass along to our customers.
 
QUESTION:           What items sell best in your shop?
 
ANSWER:              Items with multiple uses that can work in a variety of spaces are our best sellers.  For example, a small to medium sized chest can work as a nightstand, as an end table by a sofa, in a foyer or a den as an accent piece, or in a bedroom to hold a tv.  Small to medium sized accent tables sell well as do neutral upholstered items and wood shelving units.
 
 
QUESTION:           Can you tell me what my item(s) will sell for?
 
ANSWER:                No.  We make it a policy not to try to predict when or for how much an item will sell.  There's just no way to know.  We will tell you where we'll start the price, and we'll help you determine how low the price will go by the end of the consignment period.  With that information you can decide whether consignment is a viable option for you. 
 
 
 
QUESTION:           Who prices merchandise?  Will I have any input?
 
ANSWER:               We price all merchandise.  We'll ask you whether you have any expections regarding how much you'll receive and what those expectations are.  If we don't think we can meet them, we'll tell you.
 
QUESTION:          How do you decide the price of merchandise?
 
ANSWER:              Our pricing approach varies.   It depends on style and condition and general demand for an item in the  marketplace.  With respect to furniture, it always helps to know an item's original cost, the manufacturer, where and when it was purchased.
 
 
QUESTION:           Will you buy my things from me and pay me cash up front?
 
ANSWER:               As a general rule we don’t buy items up front.  And if we do, you’ll receive less – in most cases much less – than you would if the items sold on consignment.  But if payment up front is important enough for you to sell your items to the shop at a deep discount, feel free to inquire into the possibility. 
 
 
QUESTION:           Can I bring a piece of my furniture or home decor  and exchange it for a piece in your shop?
 
ANSWER:               No.   There's no guarantee that the consignor whose item you take  home will receive as much for the item you brought in to exchange.
 
QUESTION:           Do you offer layaway?
 
ANSWER:             Yes, with a minimum purchase of $100 we require a 50% deposit with the balance due in 30 days.
 
QUESTION:           Do you offer pick up or delivery services?
 
ANSWER:             No,  but we can hook you up with someone who can pick up your consignment items and/or deliver your purchases.  These folks have worked with our customers and consignors for years.  They do a great job at reasonable rates.  See FRIENDS IN BUSINESS.
 
QUESTION:           How soon do I have to pick my purchase up from the shop? 
 
ANSWER:             In a perfect consignment shop world everyone would take their purchases with them when they leave the shop, and we'd move another piece of merchandise into it's place right away. 
Of course we know it's not a perfect world.  We know not all of our customers has a truck, or a willing set of muscles readily available to transport large items.  But please understand that for us, space = money.  While your item is taking up space in the shop, we can’t use that space to display and sell other merchandise. 
  
So, please be courteous.  If you can't take an item with you, we'll ask you to give us a reasonable date by which you will pick your merchandise up.  If things change, stay in touch.  If your merchandise remains in the shop past your estimated pick up date and you don't communicate with us, we'll assume you've abandoned it and return the item to the sales floor.   We'll assess a storage fee, and you'll be required to pay that fee in full to retrieve your item.  If the item sells before you return, there will be no refunds or credits given.

QUESTION:     Where is your dog?  
 
ANSWER:     For those of you new to our shop, this really is a "frequently  asked question" from customers and consignors who always looked forward to visiting with Jessie when they came in.  In fact, some came in just to see her!  Jessie passed away in June 2008, and everyone agrees the shop just isn't the same without her.  Yours truly misses her each and every day.  For more information about our puppy dogs see WE REMEMBER.
